First search result return for a RIC

The goal here is to identify the correct RIC to be searched in the Reuters API.

Example when we look for AAPL it should return the first search result AAPL.O

I used this function in the past.

'''
x='aapl'
x=x.upper()
test = ek.json_requests.send_json_request('SymbologySearch',{'symbols': [x], 'from': 'ticker', 'to': ['RIC'], 'bestMatchOnly': False})
symbol=list()

try:
for key,value in test.items():
value = value[0]
for key1,value1 in value.items():
symbol=value1[0]
except:
pass
print( symbol)
'''

The above example will not return JPYSGD=R when I submit JPYSGD.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

The symbology search service you're using allows to search for an instrument or quote identifier in one scheme based on input in another scheme. In other words it allows you to convert a stock ticker or a CUSIP to a RIC or an ISIN. The symbology schemes supported by this service are listed in the documentation for get_symbology method in Eikon Data APIs for Python Reference Guide available under the Documentation tab on Eikon Data APIs page. These schemes include RIC, ticker, ISIN, CUSIP, SEDOL and LipperID. JPYSGD is not an instrument identifier under any of these symbology schemes. To construct a RIC for FX and Money Market instruments, which are not covered by ISIN/CUSIP/SEDOL symbology schemes, you can use RIC construction rules such as: the RIC for indicative cross curency spot rate calculated by Refinitiv from respective indicative spot rates against USD contributed by banks is constructed as 3 character ISO currency code for the base currency + 3 character ISO currency code for the quoted currency + "=R", e.g. JPY + SGD + "=R" = "JPYSGD=R".
